A Late Post, and the Permission to Slow Down

I forgot to post to this blog this morning. I promised myself I would have something ready for the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month and I hadn’t written anything. I felt pressured, hurried to get something written.

But this month I’m writing about accepting a slower pace, so even though I’m trying to move more slowly, embracing stillness and accepting growth can take its time, life still finds ways to hurry me along. A full diary, a forgotten task, a moment that slips past before I’ve quite caught it and for a while I had that guilty thought that “I should have kept up”.

Then another thought arrived, softer and more honest. Sometimes a pause is part of the rhythm.

Slowness isn’t about perfect consistency. It isn’t a performance. It’s a way of paying attention — to what’s here, to what’s needed, to what’s possible in this moment rather than the moment I thought it should be.

So, I’m letting this small gap be exactly that: a gap. A breath in the middle of things. A reminder that growth doesn’t happen on a strict timetable, and that gentleness often begins with how we meet ourselves when we fail to live up to our own expectations.

So, if you’ve had a week like that too — where something slipped, or you forgot, or you simply ran out of capacity — maybe this can be a quiet permission. You’re not behind. You’re just human. And sometimes the pause is the part that helps everything else make sense.
